Studies find new drug for skin cancer fight. This new research have made an extraordinary hope in the fight against skin cancer, Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, can be reduced by the use of 2 new novel drugs but can not be cured by them. But these new drugs offer patients a treatment option that goes beyond anything previously used against the skin cancer.
Tests in people whose melanoma had spread show the drug was able to shrink tumors in most patients and, in a few cases, even wiped the growths out, scientists report in the Aug. 26 New England Journal of Medicine. The compound targets the protein encoded by a mutated version of the BRAF gene that underlies melanoma in roughly half of all patients.
In one study, an experimental drug showed so much benefit so quickly in people with advanced disease that those getting a comparison drug were allowed to switch after just a few months.
The drug, vemurafenib, targets a gene mutation found in about half of all melanomas. The drug is being developed by Genentech, part of Swiss-based Roche, and Plexxikon Inc., part of the Daiichi Sankyo Group of Japan.
The second study tested Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.'s Yervoy, a just-approved medicine for newly diagnosed melanoma patients, and found it nearly doubled the number who survived at least three years.

Cell Phones Cancer

Cell phones cancer- Cell phone raidtaions can cause brain cancer. The announcement comes from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Like the World Health Organization, the American Cancer Society relies on IARC for evaluation of cancer risks.

The WHO advises that people use hands free kits and text messaging whenever possible.A panel of 31 experts reviewed dozens of scientific studies. They focused particularly on 10 studies done in Britain. Nine of them showed no link but the 10th one did. The panel chose to classify cell phones as a "2-B" cancer risk, meaning that they are possibly carcinogenic to human beings.
That classification puts cell phones in the same category as coffee, exhaust fumes and the pesticide DDT.
Cell phones emit radiofrequency (RF) energy, which is another name for radio waves.Research suggests that the amount of RF energy produced by cell phones is too low to cause significant tissue heating or an increase in body temperature.

The type of radiation coming out of a cell phone is called non-ionizing. It is not like an X-ray, but more like a very low-powered microwave oven.What that means is they found some evidence of increase in glioma and acoustic neuroma brain cancer for mobile phone users, but have not been able to draw conclusions for other types of cancers.
