Arizona Wildfires - Massive wildfire in eastern Arizona from two weeks have become a 225-square-mile blaze that has grown into the third-largest fire in Arizona's history covered a mountain vacation town in a smoky fog, as wind blew smoke from the burning pine forest well into nearby New Mexico and Colorado. This fast-moving wildfire forced the evacuation Tuesday of up to 3,000 additional people, a Red Cross official said, as crews continued to battle the blaze.Residents living in areas south of State Highway 260 and east of Greer, including South Fork and parts of Eagar, have been told to leave their homes, fire officials said.The evacuees will join the estimated 2,700 people already on the road in eastern Arizona.
Crews who’ve been battling this massive wildfire in eastern Arizona for two weeks shifted their focus Monday to New Mexico, where they lit fires to stifle a flare-up that skipped along treetops toward a small mountain town.In the opposite corner of New Mexico, near the Colorado border, a wildfire that has forced hundreds of people from their homes more than doubled in size to an estimated 6,000 acres, after being fanned by high winds.
