"I thought, 'I've got to deal with this.' Call it what you want, but when you're 19st 6lb, technically that's morbidly obese."Pauline, who is now a size 14-16, lost the weight by following the LighterLife programme - a low-calorie diet plan along with counselling sessions to change perceptions of food. "People say everyone puts it back on and of course I will if I go back to eating the way I was before," Pauline admits. "I can't. That's what I've learned. Unless people hold me down and force-feed me a kebab, the weight won't go back on." "Some people eat because they're lonely and unhappy. I just ate a little too much of everything all the time. I never sat and ate 20 doughnuts, or munched my way through two chocolate bars, but if we went to a restaurant I'd always have a starter, a main course and cheese - lots of cheese. I made the wrong choices for many, many years." Pauline is determined to lose another stone as she has always planned to lose 8st 7lbs. But although she loves shopping for new clothes and wearing jeans, she insists that she won't be tempted to lose any more. "For me, this has all been about being healthy. West Memphis Three film-We’ve talked before on Film Junk about the process of turning a documentary into a fictionalized movie. This happened with Lords of Dogtown, and looks to be happening with the boxing documentary Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story, and I’m sure there are many other examples out there. While it does bring the story to a new audience, it often feels somewhat redundant, and more importantly… it seems fake when compared with the documentary. It was announced this week that the story of the West Memphis Three (3 young men convicted of child murders despite a lack of evidence), will be made into a movie once again, after being covered by the two powerful documentaries Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills and Paradise Lost 2: Revelations. Dimension Films acquired the rights to Mara Leveritt’s book Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three, and will be using the book as source material. The script is being written by Scott Derrickson and Paul Harris Boardman (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Urban Legends: Final Cut). Urban Outfitters sued- The retailer is at the centre of a row over an open-legged pose which the parents of model Hailey Clauson say they did not approve. Urban Outfitters are being sued for using a picture of a teenage model open-legged pose on one of their t-shirts. The New York Post is reporting that Hailey Clauson, who was 15 years old when the photographs were taken, is suing photographer Jason Lee Parry, Urban Outfitters and two other stores for $28million worth of damages.
The model’s parents (whom the Parry claims were present at the photoshoot) claim they did not give their permission for the photographs to be used on any clothing and that Parry agreed not to release the pictures following a complaint at the time from the model’s agent. The Post also reports that Parry claims the pictures were stolen from him and that they appeared on the t-shirts after being being used on blogposts. Although the t-shirt is not being sold in the UK branch of Urban Outfitters, the Daily Mail refers to allegations that accuse Parry of making “her crotch area the focal point of the image”, adding that it also appears to reveal “what some observers believe to be pubic hair.” The issue of image ownership in the fashion industry is notoriously difficult to manage, particularly because of the internet. Annie Wilshaw, director of New Faces at Premier model management told us the Guardian she believes that it is up to the model’s agent to make sure that an image doesn’t end up somewhere it shouldn’t. “Premier (who do not represent Clauson) used to work on the basis of trust for test shoots (the industry term for on-spec photos),” says Wilshaw. “The agent then trusts that the photographer will consult the agent before attempting to sell on the images, and won’t do so if the agent doesn’t think they’re suitable because they are keen to develop a relationship with the agency. Two years ago, Premier along with other London model agencies began putting this gentleman’s agreement into writing.” “It’s impossible to say what happened in the Clauson case, but as agents we try to find out everything we can in advance about a shoot, so that when a model turns up on set there are no surprises.” The band Vampire Weekend were also on the receiving end of a lawsuit regarding image rights last year. Former model Kirsten Kennis sued the band for using an image of her taken in the 1980s on their 2010 album Contra. Kennis claimed she did not consent for the image to be used. Man bathes with rattlesnakes- Like our baths with bubbles, but an American man has been relaxing in a tub filled with rattle snakes! .Bibby spent about 45 minutes in a see-through bathtub with 87 rattlesnakes Monday, fully clothed, shattering his own record by 12 snakes just in time for Guinness World Records Day, which is Thursday. A Guinness official certified the record. The snakes crawled under his arms, between his legs and anywhere else they could slither, Bibby said. None bit him. "They can go wherever they want as long as they don't start biting," Bibby said. "The key to not biting is for me to stay still. Rapid movement scares a rattlesnake. If you move real slow and gentle, that doesn't seem to bother them." Bibby sat in the dry tub with a pillow behind him, wearing regular clothing. The snakes were not defanged and still contained their venom, he said. The record was Bibby's latest grab at glory. Last year he set a Guinness-certified record by holding 10 rattlesnakes by their tails in his mouth at once. He said he hopes to break that record today by squeezing in an 11th. Rick Rypien funeral- NHL enforcer Rick Rypien never walked away from a fight and battled bravely to the end of a too-short life, his friends and family said at his funeral Saturday. A funeral for Rypien, 27, was held Saturday at the arena where he played minor hockey just days after his sudden death in his southern Alberta home. Close to 1,000 friends, family, fans and former teammates turned out on a sunny day at Albert Stella Arena in the Crowsnest Pass to say goodbye. An autographed blue No. 37 jersey from Rypien's time with the Vancouver Canucks and a poster from his days with the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats were part of only a few mementoes scattered among the bunches of flowers. Rypien's former Vancouver teammate Kevin Bieksa was one of the pallbearers. His cousin, former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien, also attended the service. The program, with a smiling photo of Rypien in a blue Vancouver jersey, said simply, "Until we all meet again." He was found dead in his home in nearby Coleman, Alta. Police say his death was not suspicious. Rypien, who struggled with depression, had signed with the Winnipeg Jets this off-season after six years with the Canucks. His death came as a surprise to many who knew him and thought he had turned a corner. They said he was looking forward to playing for the newly relocated Jets. "We were all hopeful," said Canucks general manager Mike Gillis." We had thought at different times that he had turned a corner and we were making progress but then it would just happen again." "We had the ability to intervene. We had the opportunity over the past three years to try our hardest to do the best thing. Woot retweet sexting dictionary- The list of ridiculous Internet speak that the Oxford English Dictionary has officially recognized as real words has expanded once again this week to include retweet, woot and sexting. The words will appear in the upcoming edition of the Concise Oxford Dictionary, which was first published 100 years ago. According to Angus Stevenson in the Oxford University Press blog, the 12th edition of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary will contain a total of about 400 new words, including cyberbullying, domestic goddess, gastric band, sexting, slow food, and textspeak.
The additions bring the dictionary’s word count to more than 240,000 words. As Stevenson explains, the publishers of Oxford Dictionary have a long history of including slang and other unconventional words.“The editors of the first edition, brothers Henry and Frank Fowler, stated that ‘we admit colloquial, facetious, slang, and vulgar expressions with freedom, merely attaching a cautionary label’,” writes Stevenson. “Among the slang words they included were flapper, ‘girl not yet out [in society]’, foozle, ‘do clumsily, bungle, make a mess of’, mag, ‘halfpenny’, piffle, ‘talk or act feebly, trifle’, and potty, ‘trivial, small’.“Sadly, the new edition has no room for tremendous words like brabble ‘paltry noisy quarrel’ and growlery ‘place to growl in, private room, den’ – what we might call a man cave these days. Capybara seen in california- A giant South American rodent weighing at least 100 pounds (45 kgs) was spotted at a waste-water treatment facility in California recently before disappearing in the brush, according to a wildlife official. The animal, which was identified as a capybara, is the world’s largest rodent and feeds on vegetation. “If you think a giant guinea pig is cute, then you probably would like it,” said Todd Tognazzini, of the California Department of Fish and Game. The capybara is believed to be an escaped pet, Tognazzini said.
It was last seen about two weeks ago at a waste-water treatment facility in Paso Robles, 175 miles northwest of Los Angeles, he said. An employee at the plant took photos of the animal as it crawled out of a pond. The capybara’s South American habitat ranges from Panama to northeast Argentina, east of the Andes, according to a description on the website of the San Francisco Zoo. The animal spotted near the Salinas River and a hot spring, a watery habitat that in some ways resembles the regions where capybaras live in South America, Tognazzini said. A capybara can hold its breath under water for up to five minutes, and the animal spends much of its roughly four-year lifespan near the water, he said. The latest spotting of the capybara comes two years after another sighting of the animal a mile away. Officials believe it was the same animal last seen at the waste-water treatment facility in Paso Robles, and that there are no other capybaras in the area. In California, the capybara cannot be held as a pet without a special permit.
